Denim & Textile Art
Denim collages and sculpture made with recycled jeans.
Using denim in her own artwork as well as in school workshops, it is a versatile material: the seams, colour tones and stitched detail can all be used to create imaginative figures, buildings and sculpture.
For example, 'Elvis' the shark was made in collaboration with Meg Foster for the Cromer and Sheringham Art Festival 2010.
Sewn and painted, several pairs of recycled jeans were connected and stiffened to form this dramatic shark, which hung in the Pier Theatre for the summer season.
Jessica and Meg worked together for several years, running upcycled textile courses with teenagers and adults in Aylsham and Corpusty, culminating in the Big Wild Garden project (see Collaborations page).
